what is it and how does it work?
Improving the energy efficiency of your home is a smart investment. HeatSmart helps homeowners reduce energy waste and lower their energy bills through NYSERDA’s range of home energy efficiency programs. These programs provide a comprehensive, whole-house approach to improving energy efficiency and home comfort while saving money. For those who qualify, the programs will pay for 50% to 100% of the work! Typical improvements include adding insulation in the attic, walls, and basement, and air sealing the home envelope.
Energy efficiency goes hand in hand with heat pumps and together these home improvements will save you some real money.

What can I expect from a home energy assessment?
Your home energy assessment will be conducted by trained and experienced contractors, providing you a top-to bottom look at where your home is wasting energy. Just as importantly, your contractor will perform essential health and safety tests to determine whether the major combustion appliances (furnace, boiler, hot water tank and stove) in your home are operating safely, as well as check for mold and the conditions which contribute to its growth. After the assessment, you will receive a report which will provide you valuable information regarding the existing condition of your home, and identify areas where energy efficiency, comfort and safety improvements can be made.
